Billet Studios, LLC. Tell us which phone you use (Android or iPhone), the app version (Settings > About) and what you saw. A report sent from the app, below, says most of that for you.

Send a report from the app

This is the best way to tell us about a problem. The report is built on your phone and nothing is sent until you tap Send. You can read it first, and it lists every file it attaches; street names, rider names and locations are stripped out of the reader's records.

Android

  1. Open Settings > Help & FAQ and scroll to the cards at the bottom.
  2. If a rate looked wrong, tap A rate looked wrong to me (Open troubleshooting), then Copy report and paste it into an email to us. For a crash, or if FareWrangler stopped reading or went quiet, tap Report a problem (Open report).
  3. Read the report, then tap Send report: your phone offers its sharing menu, with our address filled in. Choose your email app.

iPhone

  3. Read the report, then tap Send report: Mail opens addressed to us with the report attached (if Mail is not set up, the share sheet opens instead).

Common questions

What is the rate?

Total pay divided by total time — the honest dollars per hour. The time is every leg on the offer card added up, so a big fare on a long trip can't hide a bad hour.

Green or red?

Green means the rate clears the target you set in Settings > My target rate; red means it doesn't. A minimum fare, set in Settings > Advanced settings > Rates & averages, also turns a small fare red even when its $/hr looks good.

Which apps does it read?

On Android: Uber Driver, Lyft Driver and DoorDash Dasher. On iPhone: Uber Driver and Lyft Driver. Keep the app you're driving open on the screen and offer cards are read as they appear.

Does it accept rides for me?

No. FareWrangler only reads and shows. It never taps Accept or Match, never declines a ride, and never changes anything in your driver app.

Does it read my texts or other notifications?

No. On Android, reservation and scheduled-ride offers arrive as notifications, so FareWrangler watches those from the supported driver apps only; messages, email and every other app are ignored. An iPhone doesn't let any app read another app's notifications, and FareWrangler doesn't try: it reads what's on your screen while you're broadcasting, and a reservation when you open it in the driver app.

It stayed quiet on an offer?

FareWrangler would rather say nothing than say a wrong number. Every read has to pass a set of sanity checks, and a shaky one needs two frames that agree. If a card leaves the screen too fast, or something covers it, FareWrangler stays silent and logs nothing. Give each offer a second on screen: the trip leg draws a beat after the card appears.

The reader stopped on its own?

Android: phones put background apps to sleep to save power. In Settings > Permissions, tap “Allow unrestricted battery,” and take FareWrangler off any “sleeping apps” or “auto-start” list. If it still drops, FareWrangler alerts you, and Restart reader in Settings > Reader starts it again. iPhone: iOS ends a broadcast when the screen locks, and can end one for a phone call or when memory runs short. The red indicator disappears when that happens; tap Start reading again.

Does it use a lot of battery?

Yes: reading the screen with the display on draws real power, so keep your phone on a car charger while you drive. On Android, Settings > Reader > Scan speed trades speed for battery, and it never scans in the background. On iPhone, keep the phone unlocked: locking the screen stops the reader.
